Geba WFK – the low-maintenance fire damper with a free diameter
Geba WFK fire damper – makes inspection openings superfluous!
The latest development of the Bartholomäus GmbH is the Geba WFK fire damper DIN EN 15650. This is a round fire damper in the nominal sizes DN 100 to DN 250. However, there are 2 significant differences to all other fire dampers in these sizes:
- The fire damper has a free cross-section
- and it is virtually maintenance-free
The free cross-section, which is completely available for the air flow, is achieved by the fact that the closing elements (damper blades) are not mounted centrally in the pipe. Rather, they are close to the pipe wall when folded. This means that the air resistance is considerably lower than with classic fire dampers. A greater air throughput is possible with hardly any noise . And there are no turbulences as with centrally mounted damper blades, which lead not only to noise generation, but also to contamination by dust excreted in the turbulences.

The release is effected by a fusible link (PVC plate) and a double torsion spring made of stainless steel. The entire mechanism is virtually wear-free and not susceptible to corrosion. A failure of the mechanism in case of fire can therefore be excluded and annual or even half-yearly maintenance intervals can be omitted.
After installation, the manufacturer prescribes a camera inspection to prove the correct installation of the flap. In addition, the manufacturer considers a 5-year interval to be sufficient for renewed inspection by camera. With this measure, the inside of the flap can be cleaned with a brush carriage if necessary.
The Geba WFK complies with all standards and has all certificates required for use as a fire damper. It is intended for use in ventilation systems in buildings, e.g. for ventilation systems according to DIN 1946-4 and 1946-6. Due to the durable release mechanism made of stainless steel, it can also be used in laboratories with corrosive admixtures in the exhaust air. However, their use is not recommended in industrial plants with heavily polluted air. The manufacturer also excludes use as a smoke damper.
With the features described above and the resulting advantages, the innovative Brandschutzklappe Geba WFK represents a small revolution in its sector. It can be installed in solid ceilings and walls as well as in dry construction walls planked on both sides. It can be installed both vertically and horizontally and in any air flow direction. Flammable pipes may even be connected. This makes the fire damper WFK almost universally applicable in the field of comfort ventilation and offers many advantages for system installers and operators.
