Schako weather protection grilles – Types and applications
Weather protection grilles are located in the supply and return air openings of ventilation and air-conditioning systems. They consist of a circumferential frame in which horizontal blades are arranged. These slats are shaped in such a way that direct rainfall is repelled. In addition, they also protect against the penetration of snow, leaves, twigs and birds. Virtually every manufacturer of ventilation components also has weather protection grilles in its product range. One of the most renowned offerers of such construction units is the enterprise Ferdinand Schad KG in Kolbingen with its well-known mark Schako.
The company offers a total of 6 different types of weather protection grilles. Among them also Weather protection grilles round and angular. The products are manufactured in standard dimensions that fit the usual ventilation duct cross-sections. An appropriate mounting frame is available as an accessory. When selecting the weather protection grilles, it is important to consider the volume flow range for which they are designed. As with any ventilation grille, the blades and any other fittings reduce the free cross-section of the opening. This results in a pressure loss, which is different for inlet and outlet due to the shape of the blades. In addition, the air generates a flow noise at the blades, the sound power level of which increases with air velocity. Below we have listed the individual types of Schako weather protection grilles:
Weather protection louvre for small sizes with fixed lamellas and rear-mounted wire mesh to repel birds and small parts. The volume flow range is 200 – 2000 m3/h. Frame, blades and wire mesh are made of galvanised sheet steel. The mounting frame available as an accessory is made of primed angle steel.
Weather protection grille round in nominal diameter 200 to 900 and for volume flows of 200 – 5000 m3/h. In the standard version, the frame and blades are made of galvanised sheet steel. Powder-coated stainless steel (sand silver colour) or white painted aluminium can be supplied at an extra charge. A rear-mounted perforated plate made of galvanised steel serves as bird protection grille.
Weather protection grille for larger sizes. Dimensions in width from 400 to 2000 and in height from 345 to 1995. Several standard louvres can be arranged on top of each other or next to each other. The delivery of installation frames is also possible on request. The rear-mounted wire mesh consists of galvanised steel. Frames and blades are available in galvanised sheet steel, untreated or natural anodised aluminium or in copper finish and with stainless steel wire mesh. For better icing protection, a self-regulating heating band can be fitted at the factory. The volume flow range is 500 – 20000 m3/h.
Schako Weather protection grille ALA-SO
This type is also intended for smaller heights. The volume flow range is 200 – 5000 m3/h. It is mainly used where a high quality design is important. Frame and slats are made of natural anodised aluminium profile. The invisible bird screen is made of galvanised steel. A mounting frame made of electrolytically galvanised steel is available as an accessory.
Schako weather protection grille type ALAS-F 125
Weather protection grilles of this type series are intended for façade installation. They are used to cover large ventilation openings in exterior walls. Any number of parts can be arranged above or next to each other. As corner pieces are also available, circumferential bands can be constructed. The delivery usually takes place in individual parts. On request and at an extra charge, individual grid elements can also be supplied assembled. The individual elements must be combined to form strips by the customer. Special sizes can be ordered at an extra charge. Supporting profile rails and the mesh wire mesh to be concealed are made of galvanised steel. The blades are available in galvanised sheet steel, untreated aluminium, natural anodised aluminium or painted stainless steel (sand silver colour). Cover plates and the aforementioned corner pieces are available as accessories, which are supplied in the material version matching the blades. The volume flow range is from 200 to 10000 m3/h.
Schako Weather protection grille type ALAS-P
This is a combination of a classic weather protection grille and a multi-leaf damper. The external weather protection grille prevents rain, snow and small parts from entering the ventilation duct, while the damper can be used to adjust or completely shut off the volume flow. A mounting frame is supplied loose. The possible volume flow is in the range 200 – 8000 m3/h. The frame, blades and the wire mesh grille are made of galvanised steel. The mounting frame is made of primed angle steel. The adjustment of the multi-leaf damper is carried out via plastic gear wheels mounted on one side, which are designed for a standard climate (temperature 23 °C, relative humidity 50 %). If the air humidity on site is permanently below 40 % or above 80 %, the manufacturer recommends the use of stainless steel gears.
