Metu: The industry standard for inspection openings and pipe connections
If you have ever had a look at a larger ventilation system, you will certainly have noticed the covers with the 2 characteristic red screw handles, which can be found in certain places of the ventilation ducts. This picture is simply memorized. And the company METU Meinig AG Rietheim-Weilheim is known above all for these covers, which are used for airtight sealing of an inspection opening.
Now one could think that a Revision cover is a relatively insignificant component of a ventilation system. But that is not the case. Only these inspection covers make it possible to cut an inspection opening at any point in the ventilation duct and then close it again easily and securely. And of course the inspection cover must prevent leaks in the area of the opening, which would lead to pressure loss and ultimately to higher energy consumption during operation of the system. Due to its outstanding properties, the METU component quickly became the industry standard.
An overview of the history
The company METU Meinig AG looks back on a long eventful history. The company founder Karl Meinig had already set up his own business in 1928, but had to re-establish his craft business for sheet metal products after the Second World War in 1945. At this time, the METU brand was also created as a combination of the first letters of the name MEnig and the town of TUttlingen. With his son Manfred joining the company, another new start is made as a supplier for a well-known air technology company. 10 years later, the company owners took advantage of the emerging construction boom and the prevailing backward production methods of ventilation ducts to enter very successfully into the production of angular ventilation ducts with new ideas and self-developed production facilities.
Innovator in ventilation duct construction
1968 a first great success. The company invents the revolutionary four-screw connection for ventilation ducts, which has long since become a global standard. In the years that followed, the company’s own ventilation duct construction also served for new technical developments. Thus in 1971 the oval inspection cover with two screw handles was born. In 1984, circular air ducts were also included in the development activities. The work resulted in the invention of the flange-like pipe connection for connecting and stiffening thin-walled pipes in the Ø range 80-3000 mm. The great advantage of this pipe connection is that only a single screw has to be tightened for installation.
Although air duct construction served as a source of ideas for many years, it was later discontinued for capacity reasons. Today, the product range consists of an innovative range of supplier parts for the production and assembly of air ducts. In addition to various versions of the covers for the inspection opening, it includes components for pipe connections, duct flange connections, accessories and mounting parts for rectangular and round ducts as well as the innovative METU-FORM pipe system for higher requirements. The products are exported all over the world and can be found on practically every construction site in the ventilation and air conditioning industry.
